Buildings Information Modelling (BIM)

What is BIM?

BIM graphicBuilding Information Modelling (BIM) is the method of ensuring that all architectural, engineering, construction and building services professionals use a common methodology in the planing, design, construction and management of buildings and infrastructure.

It is now mandatory that all construction projects with UK government involvement which have a value greater than £6 million will use BIM throughout the design, construction and management of the project from its conception through to its destruction and disposal. This process is now increasingly being used throughout the construction industry worldwide, as the benefits of this cohesive approach become more and more apparent. Any manufacturer who are unable to offer their products in an approved BIM format will be ineligible to bid for thes projects.

The methodology to be used on the processes involved in operating these systems is laid down in the PAS1192 series of standards, in particular, part 2 of these documents.

BIM is in effect the digitalisation of the construction industry and it is beginning to revolutionise the buildings industry.

For a better understanding of this process the UK government have produced a pdf guide called BIM for the terrified. Please click on the link for further information.

What can RAH do for you?

A major part of the design process is the identification of items required to forward the building construction. Everything from the bricks and mortar to the electrical switches, taps, pipes, door hinges etc. needs to be available to the architects and their design teams in the correct BIM format. This format has to contain both 3d data and a range of non graphical product information which will be required for the installation and maintenance of each item.

RAH Consultancy has gained extensive experience in modeling the BIM format, particularly in relation to items relating to the water industry.  Our BIM solutions will ensure an accurate representation of the physical and functional characteristics of an item used in the construction process. In particular, producing accurate graphical 3d images of items such as taps, valves, pipes etc. These images are capable of being inserted directly into the 3d design which is being produced by the architect and his design team. These image files also carry all of the non graphical product information and data such as the installation and maintenance instructions, parts-catalogues, dimensional information, etc. which will be needed for the correct use of the item. The ability of the intelligent BIM model to be shared effectively between all parties in the project life-cycle really does enhance the ease with which clients and their customers can share files.

RAH uses Autodesk Revit® design and construction software to assist us in providing BIM solutions in combination with SolidWorks software for product design applications.

We can help you now!

RAH can produce for you all of the required 3d data and non graphical product information for each of your items in an approved BIM format quickly and cost effectively. We can also, if required, maintain the BIM files for the life of the product.
